Fall Finals Week Query 2011

Hey all,  If you feel led, and are in need of a quick study break, please respond to this query:

How do you stay centered and present during times of stress?

Good luck with finals. Don't let them get you down.

  1. I write accountability on my hand to remind me of my goals as a student, and to motivate me. I also seek time for study breaks, to get off campus and breathe, and check in with others who might be stressed as well.

  2. I personally find that fresh air really helps me get my mind back on track. When the stress of homework begins to pile up I find that my mind tries to fire on all cylinders and go in twenty directions at once but this just ends up accomplishing a whole lot of nothing.

When it hits a boiling point I always remember what brings me back down to a manageable stress level is a quick breath of air. Even a five minute session of deep breathing on my porch gets me right back on track. There's something about a lungful crisp autumn air that does wonders.

  3. Making my mind a blank slate whenever I feel myself becoming overwhelmed with all of the work that I have to accomplish puts everything back into perspective and reminds me that there is more to life than school work. I try to take three very deep breaths and clear my mind of all my worries, sort of like instant meditation and then I feel refreshed and ready to conquer the work that must be done. I also set aside ample time for meals and sleep so that I don't feel exhausted after a long day or week of work.

  4. I either take a walk outside and spend enough time in nature to feel truly human again and release the stress, or I lose myself in music.

  5. I never sacrifice sleep and avoid places where I know I will procrastinate. I will also take walks or showers if I am really stressed.
