Fall Query 2013!

Welcome back to the blog! Here is a question to warm up our brains and get us re-introduced to PFP's blog! Our goal is to have queries posted more frequently, so let's get started with this simple one:

What was your favorite meal over break?

Thank you Friends!

  1. Over break, I had the best grits of my life. I usually shy away from this dish of coarsely ground corn kernels, but the cooks on the work trip, Glenda and James, knew what they were doing. I think of those grits almost every morning and will forever more be in search of grits that can stand up to those.

  2. I was so excited to be the first post!!! But seeing as I'm not, I will pretend I didn't see V.G.'s response since mine was going to be so similar...

I went on the service trip with Friends Disaster Service over break. I told my peers repeatedly that I really enjoyed eating much more southern than I am used to. I took it as a part of the experience of doing Christian-led service in the South. By far, my favorite meals were breakfast. Bacon, eggs, grits (as Grace said, the BEST grits I've ever had--probably because they had so much butter), biscuits galore--often with sausage gravy, and plenty of coffee. It made getting up at 6:45 each morning just a little easier :)

  4. My birthday was over break, and I was supposed to be at Austin City Limits Music Festival all day. I was really looking forward to the festival but was kind of disappointed that I wouldn't be able to have a traditional birthday dinner. Then, the night before, it poured incessantly and flooded the park where the festival is held, forcing the organizers to cancel the festival for the first time ever. While I was bummed about missing a day of music, my family and I rectified the day by going on a muddy hike, buying excessive amounts of music at a local record store, and making broccoli risotto and gluten-free chocolate cake for dinner. All around an excellent 20th birthday.

  5. My favorite meal over break was eating at this Church that had been converted into a brewery and had amazing perogi. First time I've ever had non frozen perogi.

  6. My favorite meal was a nice breakfast. It started with three eggs fried over easy with bits of smart deli sausage cooked into it. Then I melted fresh mozzarella on top of it. Then with much skill I slipped a tortilla underneath the eggs and let it get nice and crispy. While it was crisping I put slices of avocado and a bit of fresh salsa on top of the cheesy egg mess. It was intended to be a breakfast burrito, but the amount of ingredients made that impossible.

  7. There are a lot of things I miss about home but the thought of my dad's breakfasts really bring out that feeling of homesickness. The cafe really cant compete with his buttermilk pancakes, pillow like waffles and delicious french toast. Lucky for me, my parents came out to NC over fall break and so of course Pops had to make some french toast. Mind you we didn't have the trader joes maple syrup that is a staple at home but we did have some yummy jams and honey to top the sourdough french toast(its all in the bread, and the amount of oil). It was as if they had brought a little slice of home to me!
